An argument for content spinners.

I spend a fair amount of time on a few Internet Marketing forums, mostly searching for threads discussing my areas of interest. Obviously one of those interests is content spinning.

In case you're not familiar with what content spinning is, it's basically formatting an article with code that allows for a random selection of synonyms to generate unique content.

For example:

The {quick|fast|speedy} {brown|tan|beige} fox {jumped|leaped|soared} over the {lazy|languid|slothful} {dog|canine|pooch}.

That coded content can be used to generate a variety of different sentences by randomly selecting one of the synonyms found inside the {|} for inclusion in the generated sentence. Using this kind of "coded text" on full articles allows you to generate a large number of articles that the search engines see as "unique content."

Sounds like a great idea, right? Not everybody thinks so.

The Controversy

In reading through the many, many forum threads discussing content spinners lately, it seems that people almost always fall into one of three categories:

1. They hate spinners because they feel that they just generate unreadable garbage.

2. They hate spinners because they feel that, even used properly, the content created does not add any real value to the web.

3. They love spinners and use them in every aspect of their search engine optimization.

Let's discuss each of these points of view one at a time.

Hate Group #1: "All Spinners Create Garbage"

In my mind, the group that is completely convinced that all content spinners generate nothing but unreadable garbage have very little real experience with spinners. I do, of course, understand and agree with the idea that you should not just push the synonym button and keep whatever the content spinner adds to your article without modification. If you do that, even with a spinner as highly advanced as my software, The Best Spinner, you usually end up generating articles that read very badly.

However, that's a very irresponsible use of a content spinner. A good spinner can be used to generate a large number of quality articles if the user takes a few minutes to clean up the synonym selections that the software makes. Unfortunately, a lot of people who use spinners don't take the time to do this, thus giving all content spinners a bad name.

Even so, to make the blanket statement that "all spinners are worthless" because of the actions of some spinner users is like saying that all prescription medicine is bad because some people overdose on it. A content spinner can be a powerful tool, and can also be a garbage generator.

Computer programmers have a saying: Garbage In, Garbage Out. That axiom certainly applies here. The quality of a spun document depends very much on the time and effort the user puts into that document.

Hate Group #2: "Spun Articles Add No Real Value To The Web"

I'm much more sympathetic to this point of view than the first. I understand the argument that spinning a document doesn't add any new knowledge or understanding to the web in general. I can see where somebody who feels that way is coming from.

However, syndicating articles through sites like EzineArticles.com doesn't add anything new to the web either, and yet I daresay that almost all of the people in this hate group have nothing against article syndication. What's the difference? The only difference is that with mainstream syndication you're putting the same exact article in many places, whereas with article spinning you're putting the same information worded differently in many places.

So unless a member of this hate group also feels that article syndication adds absolutely no value to the web, it's really hypocritical on their part to have this point of view.

I don't agree, though, that putting well-spun (or even just syndicated) articles in many places on the web doesn't add to the overall pool of knowledge. In my mind, the more places that a well written, educational article appears, the more chances it has of being read, the more people that will benefit from it.

The flip side is also true, of course. A lousy article can also generate a lot of misinformation -- but that's where reader discernment comes into play. Misinformation was alive and well long before content spinners were created!

Badly written articles don't prove that content spinners are worthless anymore than a badly made smoothy proves that a blender is worthless. If what goes in is bad, what comes out will be bad. Garbage In, Garbage Out.

Love Group: "Content Spinners Are My Bread And Butter!"

For every spinner hate post I've read on the forums, there's another post talking about how wonderful spinning is and why you should be doing it. I agree. Used correctly, content spinners can help you with search engine optimization in two major ways:

1. They allow you to get links to your web site without manually writing hundreds of unique articles one at a time.

People often post articles to article directories in an effort to get links from other sites to their own site. These links improve your web site's ranking in the search engines. But it takes a long time to write hundreds of unique articles one at a time.

A content spinner makes this much faster by allowing you to create spin-formatted articles that generate dozens or hundreds of unique articles in a tiny fraction of the time it would take to write them all one by one. This saves countless hours of precious time, allowing you to leverage your time much more effectively.

2. They prevent the problem of your syndicated article outranking the article on your web site because they're duplicates.

Has this ever happened to you: You post a new article to your own site, and then submit that same article to some of the major article directories, with a link back to your site, only to find later that the search engines are putting the syndicated article higher up in the search results than the original (if your original is anywhere to be found)!

It happens all the time. That's because the major directories (especially EzineArticles.com) have millions of links into them which give them a large amount of authority in Google's eyes. That means that an article posted on EZA can rank very well without many links to the individual article, whereas you have to do a lot more link building to get your article ranked on your own site.

Google makes it clear that for any given keyword search they will only show one copy of any given article. So if both EzineArticles.com and your own site host the same article about "green widgets", Google's only going to show one of the two articles in the "green widgets" search results. Unless you do a good bit of legwork in advance, EZA is going to win almost every time because of the site's authority.

Content spinners solve this problem by making it easy to generate unique versions of your own site's content for posting to major article directories. That way the search engines see the two documents as different from each other and prevents the article on your site from being filtered out of the results without all of that extra backlinking.

Another advantage of this is that it gives you the ability to have multiple listings for a given set of keywords in the search results. So instead of only the article on your site showing up in Google's results for "green widgets", both the article on your site and the EzineArticles.com article have a chance of being in the top ten. This greatly improves your exposure and traffic potential.

(A word of caution: EzineArticles does not want duplicate content to be submitted to it. So you have to really work hard to get a unique version before submitting it to EZA. The Best Spinner has built in Copyscape checking so you can ensure that your spun version will actually appear unique. All the same, proceed with caution when it comes to EZA.)

In Summary

Are content spinners worthless garbage generators? Yes, if used incorrectly.

Do content spinners not add any real value to the web? If not, then neither does article syndication which nobody has a problem with.

Are content spinners powerful tools for improving your search engine rankings? You betcha, which is why they are so popular these days.

  1. the best spinner is by far the leader in the pack, and will constantly stay above the rest

  2. TBS is the best spinner just like the name says. I tried another pay by the month one with limits on how many wrangles errr spins you could do. Limits and the spins were not as good.

  3. Sorry this just came to mind If you write and article in English and then translate the same exact article into French, would that be an issue?
I would think no if all one could read was French.
Think outside of ourselves there is someone that could use that information. Who knows it might just change their lives forever.

  4. I personally think spinning is good for the web. If you look at it this way. We all learn differently this is a fact, if someone writes out instructions and someone doesn’t understand then you would re-write the text wouldn’t you. You need to explain the information in a different manner.
I am dyslexic and I can’t count the number of times that a certain process has been explain to me. Maybe after the tenth person explained the same thing to me differently did I then understand.
So believe me there is a great use for the web with using spinners, for those that don’t understand you’re lucky that you don’t have to read the same thing over and over again before you finally understand what the topic is conveying.
Example: How many different versions of the Bible are there. How many different explanations of God can you think of. There’s a subject that’s been discussed for thousands of years yet people still write about it. Same subject different words.
Another example if you tell someone here in the states that you’re going on holiday they might ask which holiday is coming up. But if you ask that same question to a European person they say where are you going. Think beyond yourself and you will understand where I am coming from. It’s not all about ourselves.

  5. How lucky I am to have found an article spinner/rewriter this early-on in my IM career! I’ve seen some other programs’ poorly written articles out there but, among other things, it seems to help some people with shaky English produce acceptable articles which get their points across. I think it’s a boon for them.
Not only do I write and re-write articles, I use the spinner to create lyrics for my songs. I used to spend hours and hours with my head buried in a thesaurus. I still have my head in the rhyming dictionary…
Now if they can just create a “rhyming” spinner, I’ll be all set! :)

  6. I use the spinner program and what I normally do is jazz it up with spinable html code i.e

    {|} etc

This is great, not only do I alter the size and makeup of the content of the article but I also change the images that accompany that article and the size of the image.

  7. I’m the one who hate spinners a lot. It takes longer time to spin an article with the dissappointing result than rewrite it manually. However, The Best Spinner gives me hope.

  8. Think of this way. When you create quality content and promote them using spinned articles you give back to the community by providing them with the right knowledge.

  9. I don’t have a problem w/ spinners – as long as the final result isn’t just unreadable nonsense (and wow…have I ever seen some garbage out there!).

I take a lot of pride in the articles I write, and I also have my (and my websites’) reputation built into everything I produce. That said, I definitely see the value in having some assistance when it comes to multiple submissions. And like one of your readers mentioned (above – “Cheap Air Soft Guns”) a spinner is merely a tool; it’s ultimately NOT the fault of the spinner if things don’t read well – it’s the human behind the original piece.

Thanks for the thoughtful post Jonathan!
    :) Kath

  10. I appreciate Jonathan’s logic on spinning. It can take quite awhile to properly spin an article if you do it right. It’s particularly effective if your spinning software will let you do nested spinning. Rather than synonyms you replace full portions of sentences and then words within those phrases.

I find that EZA requires a uniqueness rating of close to 60% rather than the usual 40% min by other article directories.

I’ve heard that the Pagerank of the websites or blogs to which spun entries are made determines how long the SEs will give credit for the links. Any comment on that Jonathan?

    Thanks again J.L.!

  11. Hi. I own the spinner and 1 Way. For the newbies here you mentioned you spin 50% of primary keyword (anchor text) and 50% of domain keyword for the first link in 1 WAY. How do you do that?
    Looking forward

  12. I think content spinners mainly change the sentence construction of the articles. But do they add new information in the articles? Before writing an article on a subject, the content spinner must do lots of research on the web, gain the expertise level and then write something on the subject.
By writing the same thing in different writing styles, the web is getting filled up with junk articles, that is not accepted.

  13. Maybe the ultimate test of The Best Spinner would be to take some of the “garbage” and spin it to something useful!

I like the idea of using TBS as an editor of sorts on my own material. Let’s face it, most of us, OK many of us, are abhorred at the some of the first articles and site content we wrote. You know, our first attempts at “original content”. For that matter it could be our last attempt.

Spinning it to read like what I intended for it to read is a great service to me and my readers.

  14. Remember, these are just tools, if they are used incorrectly, it is not the spinner’s fault but the human’s!

  15. Jonathan,

My statement wasn’t meant as a personal attack. The point I was trying to make was that a lot of people who spin content wouldn’t do so if they realized how their actions affect the usability of the web. I know this because I fell into that group.

As for everyone else, a lot of people’s reasons are perfectly understandable, but I can’t call them legitimate justifications because in the end it still boils down to helping yourself at everyone else’s expense.

I’m not passing judgment on anybody, but I’m a firm believer in working with the search engines rather than against them, and I cannot in good conscience label content spinning anything close to white hat.

Are content spinner’s effective? For the publisher, sure.

Are they worthless garbage generators? Nope, just undetectable duplicate content generators.

Do they add value to the web? No, and contrary to syndicated content, they actually take value away from the web by disguising duplicate content as unique, allowing the same information to be indexed multiple times.

Is content spinning ethical? I’d compare content spinning to pissing in the public pool. It’s not against the law, but not exactly polite to everyone else inhabiting the same space.

  16. Chuck:

You can look at it as “tricking” the engines, or you can see it as taking the steps necessary to ensure your site and/or content ranks well.

If spun content is a “trick”, then going out and making deals with webmasters to link to you is also a trick. But if that’s a trick, then you have to take the next step and say that all advertising is a trick intended to manipulate people into buying your product instead of your competitor’s.

You can see it as a “trick”, or you can see it as a savvy business tactic.

  17. Dustin:

I can appreciate every part of your point of view EXCEPT:

“Because those who engage in it are either ignorant to the mess they’re creating, or excuse their actions by means of false justification.”

One person’s “false justification” is another man’s “understandable reasons.” You can’t read other people’s minds or hearts to make the claim that you know everyone who uses spun content is either unaware of your perceived “mess” or is using false reasoning to justify their actions.

Your attempts to make that claim only make the rest of your comments look less rational to a reasonable individual.

Stick to the facts, please, and leave the personal attacks out.

  18. The difference between syndicated content and spun content is that spun content is meant to trick search engines into thinking the content is unique, when in fact it is NOT.

I used to spin content. That is until I realized I was swimming in my own crap. It’s incredibly frustrating to do a Google search and find the same article spun over and over again in the results. Even if the article is of great value, it only needs to show up once, and after that it detracts from the user experience.

Content spinning is among the worst types of spam, not only because it’s so difficult for search engines to block, but because those who engage in it are either ignorant to the mess they’re creating, or excuse their actions by means of false justification.

  19. I haven’t used spinners before but the idea seems manipulative to me. It seems like the only reason you would want to use spinners is if you are trying to trick the engines. An alternative might be changing the title of the article and writing a paragraph at the beginning of the article with your opinions about the article and why you think the article is important. I think that there can be value added from reposting articles if there is an editorial process. A site that aggregates the best articles in a given topic for example could help people find the best content.

  20. I really need to try some article spinning. Coincidentally I happened to buy some article spinning software for one of my employees recently and it turned out to be Jonathan’s spinner software. When I saw who made the software I had complete faith buying it. I just haven’t got around to using it myself. I think the variety of content that can be created is great.

  21. Also I meant to ask if any of you guys have much experience with UAW ? And whats your opinion ??

    Thanks

  22. I think Content Spinners can be both very useful to its user and also provide quality attributes to the Web. It just depends on how you use it.
If you abuse it and steal other people’s Articles and just push a button and spin it, then yes it is a bad thing.

But if you have unique articles that you wrote yourself and you want to syndicate them but using some different words, then its fine !!

    Thats my $.02

  23. Nice post. Content spinner can add real value to your marketing strategy. Must have for everyone

  24. Excellent write-up. Concise and infomative. Deciding weather to use an article content spinner is really just a personal preference. The one main benefit is the time you save if you are a content publisher or article marketer. If you are looking for a magic article writer then an article content spinner is not for you. If you just want to make your existing articles more unique and spice up your old PLR articles into new ones than an article content spinner could be a real time saver when it comes to making a brand new article out of an old one.

  25. Article spinning is just like any other tool out there – it can be a huge benefit to you if done properly, and can be absolute junk if little time or effort is put into it. I personally have had great experiences with spinning, but I always made sure my articles read well and provided good content no matter what words were chosen.

  26. Of course if 2000 people are using the same PLR articles there may not be all that much difference in the finished articles. The search engines will sort the chaff from the fodder.

Content spinners are great value to me. I write all my own content and they allow me to spin other articles from that content for other sites and article sites. Till now I have had to still have a fair amount of input into them to make them readible, but still time saving rather than if I had to do it all myself, so am looking forward to using The Best Spinner.
Love all your software Jon. The Best Spinner is my next purchase.

    Bonnie

  27. Hello,

I found that some spinners use almost automatically synonims and they often produce articles that are difficult to read and sometimes contain plenty of errors and garbage contents..

Some other ones rely on some manual work and you have to specify alternative texts. These usually produce better results but require more work.

I think that spinners should be considered more help tools that replacement of human work.

    Regards

    Mario Pesce

  28. I think any time you can use automation to make better use of your time, you should do it. Of course, you should spend a little extra time to make sure your automation efforts aren’t just creating garbage. In the long run, you’re not really helping yourself by creating garbage.

  29. TBS is great for creating content for 2nd tier sites. I’ll usually spin a unique article and create content for them.

  30. I found your website through your older “46 page-one results in google” post. Thanks for the ideas about 1 way links.

Regarding content spinners, you still have to be careful, because Google might be able to tell that all the content is really just the same thing over and over again.

  31. I totally agree with this article. Very good points! On my part, I don’t rely on article spinners. They are horribly full of grammatical errors and full of meaningless sentence. Better to recruit a part time or full time content writer for this purpose. He/she would definitely provide you good stuff.

    Josh

  32. I too have gone back an forth on this issue myself, but bottom line – it appears that content spinners are here to stay. To be honest, I wasn’t all that impressed by TBS when I first purchased it. Part of that was my learning curve and part was what I perceived to be “problems” with the tool. To his credit, I think Jonathan and his team are addressing ths issues one by one and when they are done I expect it to be a great tool.

  33. I’m firmly in the hate group #2 camp. But I don’t believe that massive syndication of your articles across hundreds of article directory sites is making the Internet a better place, either.

My own take on it is somewhat different: high-quality articles, distributed to a *few* (less than five) select directories with the intention of being picked up by high-quality sites for their readers to enjoy. Whenever I engage in article marketing, that’s my goal, and it works. I’ve had articles picked up by PBS.org, among others.

As good as The Best Article Spinner is (and it is, I’ve tested it) I just don’t think it will ever produce something well-written and informative enough to end up on a truly respectable authority site.

  34. I’m very mixed about this…

I just got done reading a comment from a guy that was really pi$$ed that another marketer is ranking all over on the first page of Google for a particular keyword with what he called crappy spunned content.

From his point of view it wasn’t “fair”…

Afterall, he took the time to write good quality original content…and he’s not rewarded by Google for his efforts.

And how many times have I seen top search results dominated by the same article that was clearly spunned? Lots.

I guess I could get jaded, but I choose to be better at the “game” because marketing is about competition and being *better* than your nearest competitor.

So, I look at it two ways.

You can be a smarter marketer and do what it takes to dominate without stepping into “black hat” territory or you can sit around and complain how things aren’t fair.

Spinners and other automation tools are here to stay. If you feel good about what you’re doing and what you’re putting out…and you can sleep at night, then more power to you.

Those who keep up with technology and leverage tools and systems are the ones who end up being more productive in the end. The more productive you are, the more money you’re going to make.

Quality vs quantity? I like to be somewhere in the middle.

    Corrisa

  35. I think article spinners are great if used properly. Unfortunately most of the time people are too lazy to do so, thus churning out garbage that is unreadable.

It does take quite a bit of work to spin an article properly so you don’t get tagged with duplicate content. But lets just take this as an example.

I’m going to take this to extremes. What if it takes two hours to write an article (which it shouldn’t). Now in order to assure that your article is spun so you’re not getting any duplicates according to Copyscape it takes you, let’s say three hours to do this (again way too long). Now you set your spinner to spin 25 articles. What you’ve just accomplished is writing 26 unique articles in 5 hours. That’s 5 articles an hour. I don’t know about you but I know I can’t do that.

Now what if you set your spinner up to spin 50 articles instead of 25. That’s 10 articles an hour.

Yeah, spinning articles can be a lot of work to make sure you get good quality and unique articles but how long would you last if you had to write each one individually. Not long.

    Just one more note.

Don’t just spin articles. If you’re like me you have tons of PLR ebooks or short reports on your hard drive. This is how you can create your own product. Use the spinner to re-write each chapter and you have now with very little work created your own product to give away to help build your list.

  36. I agree that the biggest problem is not the spinner but the garbage in garbage out content you spoke of. For me though, I find it takes too much time to clean up both the formating and spun text of a bunch of articles.

  37. It”s sad that people take out their frustrations about poorly written, useless, spammy articles on content spinners, when it’s the author who is the problem, not the tool they use to multiply their crap. But I personally feel that for every spammeister there are probably 5 people writing quality, useful content and using spinners to spread it around.

  38. I have to say that I love content spinners. They save so much time and effort when getting backlinks. I don’t think they fill up the web with garbage because most of the directories that they are put on nobody reads. They all point back to the “quality content” that we want ranked as marketers.

  39. EZA has no problems with dupe content. As a matter of fact, reposting the articles from your own blog there is allowed.

Chris Knight himself said so on his own EZA blog.

  40. I’m in group 3 but I sure can understand Allen Graves’ position as a directory owner being spammed.

The problem here is that many in group 1 and 2 often blame the software when I believe they should be blaming the user of the software.

Most automated or semi-automated software can be misused if that is the users final intent. This is likely to end up as a “few bad eggs” ruining it for the rest of us that try to create intelligent, readable yet unique output from spinners.

As a programmer, Jonathan hit it on the head saying “Garbage In, Garbage Out”. Quality is proportional to effort and there really isn’t any way around that. And I’m not just talking about spinning articles…

    Tony

  41. Content spinners is only helping tool but can not replace creativity of human writing. Actually every man and woman is skillful writer if they know why and how to write a good content! Write not for yourself but for others! Content Spinners is a good tool if you’re still newbie in writing.

    Regards

    Dedy

  42. Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.
Debating this topic is similar to debating the use of other very successful tools that aid in streamlining work flow. Hand coders look down on the wysiwyg editors much like writers look down on spinners. There is always going to be the fight of an old way of doing things and a more modern way.

That having been said, there is a right way and a wrong way to go about streamlining work flow, and or using tools the right way. Anyone that spins an article has got to realize that they need to proof read that article one more time before they send it out.

I am relatively new to this whole concept I will admit, but I have got to say that if done properly, you can wield a mighty sword. I do utilize a spinner myself, just not in the way that is spoken of here. And while not going the TBS route, I have found a pretty good one in Krulik’s work. From my initial workings, I am impressed. Spinners come in real handy if you have four plumbing websites to build and the plumbers aren’t writers :) Remember, unique content is king… :p

I come from a diverse background. Having spent time as a writer and editor, I can sympathize with the ones that want to fight ” the good fight ” and hold true to writing as an art and a skill. Now in my current role thought I do seo work for a company and as an average ( not all, for the record), the clients we cater to don’t care about the content, they want position. And they want it yesterday. So what do you do? Do you debate with the guy that is going to pay your electric bill about idealogical viewpoints on writing, or keep the power on?

Its a tool, use it right and use it well. Its people that kill people, remember that.

  43. Ok all you pro article spinners….here is my chance to ask you. Have your profits and conversions really improved by using these spinners?

I want real honest {snip} proof that you are really gaining more revenue, subscribers and or loyal customers.

If you are you know how to contact me…..
    Paul

  44. I have been using Best Spinner and it is the first one I have come across that has been worth my time. But I have 2 concerns. One is how so many articles really butcher the English language in the spinning process so we all come out sounding like non-native speakers, UNLESS, you do a LOT of editing. And the other is …what happens when we all sound alike? hm. They sure do help get the word out fast.

  45. Article spinning is the only real world way of submitting dozens of articles without having to spend your whole life or paying somebody else to right them.

  46. I love the best spinner. I will write a 500 word unique article in about an hour, and then make it about 65% unique on the best spinner, which takes me about another hour, and then I generate 20 to 30 copies.

So for 2 hours work, I have 20 to 30 articles that I use for back linking my sites. It’s a huge time saver.

I have used other spinners, and they worked ok, but the best spinner is cool because it has so many words and phrases loaded in it, and that makes it real easy.

  47. Hi Jonathan,

I agree with your logic on content spinners. It makes prefect sense to me. I also agree with California Weddings that it is people not the spinner that produces the garbage.

If the spinner is used right and it is a good spinner like your “The Best Spinner” then the output can also be good.

BTW, I have been using your spinner since it first came out and I love it. Thanks for updating it so it just keeps getting better.

So I guess that puts me in your third group.

  48. I no longer think spinners are so great for me. I’m much quicker at writing my own original content, so for me spinners don’t save time, they waste my time.

Everyone has a way of doing things so I don’t think there is a right or wrong answer. Spinners are great tools for people who know how to use them properly. The problem is, I’ve seen too many people abuse them.

  49. Most anything I would say has already been said. I have used the Best Spinner since the beginning. The reason is it is the best one I have ever used. Spinners are nothing more than tools. If you are an internet marketer who uses articles then using a spinner makes sense especially from a economic perspective.

I have found that I can re-write articles up to 4 or 5 times faster. I have also found that in order to do as best that I can I have to go back and proof read a lot. If I pay attention I get good stuff if I don’t I get garbage. Using a spinner is the same as using the proper tool to construct a house or fix a car. The right tool works better.

Everyone has to make their own decisions love or hate. Personally I will use any tool that is faster and better to accomplish my business goals. What others do is of no import.

  50. Great way to put it, keep up the good work.

  51. I have never used spinners, but to be honest there is already a ton of garbage and plr articles on the net, so I don’t see how a well spun article can do any harm.

A way to look at it, is as a way clean up the garbage that is already posted on the net :P

  52. Hi Jon,

Personally I like spinners and not for the reason that most do, a few years ago I was in a car accident and I struggle to write now. Before I would be able to get an article out in a half hour and now it can take up to two hours. If you could read my work before the accident and now you would think they were written by two different people.

The spinners help me by offering synonyms and ways to rephrase a sentence that I might have not thought of, and they spark my imagination. Spinners are my source of rehabilitation.

Since much of Internet marketing is based on writing articles for back links my business has taken a big hit but I force myself to write and I will overcome! I’m very grateful for the Best Spinner.

Although I do agree that there are some nasty spun articles that make little sense flooding our article directories, it’s not the spinners fault but the person doing the spinning.

  53. The truth is, content spinners don’t create garbage, people do. No matter whether it’s PLR, content put through a content spinner, or content you’ve paid someone else to write, if you don’t care to at least check the article or add some new information to it before you add it to your site or post it to your blog, then you deserve to post garbage.

In the case of articles from article sites such as EzineArticles, you can even help that along by adding some information of your own about the topic, with either a couple intro paragraphs, or some added information at the end of the article, after you’ve included the linkable attribution.

  54. I hate content spinners for sooooo many reasons. Too many clients use these things then want me to fix the errors in grammar. For those that do not speak English, they do not know any better and use these things anyway.

For the good spinners that are out there, they are taking business away from hard working writers.

    Just my two cents.

  55. Hi Jon,

I agree to what you said about the 3 types of people on their views about content spinning.

I belong to the third one. I can’t imagine I have to write every single article myself without the help of content spinners such as the best spinner.

Your spinner definitely deserves the name The Best Spinner!

    Best!
    Welly Mulia

  56. I’ve been using TBS for a couple of months and I absolutely think its the best thing since sliced bread. Without it I would not be submitting articles to various directories. Unlike everything else there is a Right way and a Wrong way to do everything I choose the first way since it’s so simple even for a seasoned individual such as myself.

  57. I’m a Article Spinner Lover and really like The Best Spinner -although I wish you’d make a Mac version too! Great article with solid points. Thanks Jon. I always like what you have to say.

  58. Usually I use The Best Spinner for the mass submission systems like your own 1waylinks.com and a few others.

I start with a PLR article and after it is spun I delete the PLR version so I never use it again. You end up with a good article that reads well in about 15-20 minutes.

I save the spun version, one that is spun 5 times and one that is spun 10 times ending up with 3 quality, 40% +/- unique articles that I can then use in directories. I submit each spun article to about 10 directories each as to not over due the duplicate content thing.

Yes, there will be a bit of duplicate content happening and this is my take on it……I feel the search engines EXPECT to see several of the same article in directories, it’s only natural that someone submits an article to 10 directories. It seems crazy to think that the same person would totally re-write the same article to submit to a single directory. Having the same article on a few directories all pointing to the same site IS natural.

That’s just my observation and common sense approach to the duplicate content thing, what do you guys think? Am I wrong?

BTW, I do NOT use the article on my site. I only spin PLR to submit out to locations. For my site I write unique content, 100% hand written (using Jon’s IAW and Answer Analyst! Of course!). Your site content needs to be YOURS, not just older, spun information. Do the research, write well.

  59. I used to hate content spinners especially the ones I bought because the author claimed that they were the best. Every one I’ve purchased so far, except one were living nightmares. There is a monthly fee to use this new one that I’m using though. I see the benefit in using them because writing unique articles can be pure hell when you have so many to write for several blogs. Articles is so far the best way to get back links and google loves them too.

  60. Thank you for taking the time to post that excellent article.

I only use spinners for the purposes of getting backlinks to my sites although I think TBS is good enough that in the right hands can be excellent for creating unique content from an already well written article.

  61. You rock Jonathan! Your coverage of the topic was well-done, clear and concise…..look forward to more interesting coverage on controversial issues and the like. Thanks for sharing.

  62. I’ve been using Best Spinner in article spinning and I’m satisfied to it’s results. You can generate many spinned article in just a matter of seconds. I think spinner is best if you know how to do it well and it is used properly in your articles.

  63. I would have to agree that if used right, content spinners can be a great asset to your business. I am a writer by trade, so when it comes time to do my own article marketing, I do not want to spend the time on writing something new. Using your content spinner and my plr articles, taking some time to make sure it sounds correct, grammar, etc; and I am able to have a bunch of unique articles I can throw on my blog or into EZA.

I used to just spend the time going through the thesaurus myself when trying to re-write articles, but that takes too long and can get a little annoying at times.

I would recommend that people give article spinning a fair shot before deciding that they are just garbage spinners.

thanks for the great work and products that you are always offering to help us with.

  64. I am just getting into using content spinners since recently purchasing The Best Spinner (TBS). I find TBS to be excellent for spinning as it allows me to generate content which is readable & that makes sense.

Some of the spinners I’ve seen put out nonsensical stuff which often makes little or no sense.

Of course, it’s all in how much you put into the process. I can see where you could easily generate “crap” with TBS. The nice thing is that you have a choice not to while still being able to work quickly.

As for the “spinners add nothing new” belief, I would say that much of what gets added to the web every day is unoriginal. If I research a topic & then output some content (article, ebook, etc), based on the research, is this adding to the web or is it the same information wearing “different clothes”?

I would suggest that it depends on how one uses the research to create the content. A new twist on an old theme, a new use for a tool, alternate views or understandings of concepts & ideas, all add something new. This only happens if the content author “makes” it happen.

This is equally doable with content spinners. We are not limited to using one article at a time. If I choose to use a few article on one topic & add my own unique viewpoints, I can recombine the inputs in various ways to create articles, ebooks & more. Each can become unique by what its point-of-view is.

For example, if I am teaching someone how to assemble something, part of the training will be proper tools & how to use these tools. This knowledge would be common to all similar projects. How to use a screwdriver is the same whether you’re putting together a computer desk or a bicycle.

So, I am in the 3rd group. I find the tool (TBS) very useful. “love it ” might be a bit strong. It does greatly speed up the process of recombining information from various sources.

TBS seems to me to be a “best in class” tool. And I appreciat that you keep adding more functionality to it.

    Best regards,
    Michael Seelye

  65. Before using The Best Spinner I also thought that spinners only put out poor quality content.

However, my content from The Best Spinner is good and I can create something quite unique to submit to other artcle directories after my submission to EZA. I really dislike submitting the exact same article to a bunch of different article directories.

I sometimes use it to just get some different phrase ideas for a new article that I am writing, especially if I’m tired and find myself with writer’s block.

  66. Elsewhere (in the Cash4Link forum), I commented on the foolishness of “blasting out many articles to Articles Directories” vs proper Article Marketing (much more valuable). Here I will share part of an Email I just sent to EzinesArticles because they refused an article of mine (written under my alter ego name) which included a link to Jon’s Article Spinner.

“Since you people at EzineArticles are dead set against the use of article spinners I thought it might be worth your while to understand that which you hate because there is a bit of contradiction going on here.

Personally, I don’t use article spinners.. I don’t think the off the wall stuff I write can benefit from such devices, however, I am reminded of the struggle Norman Rockwell, the illustrator, went through when he first adapted photography to his work. There were those who booed and hissed. However, as Rockwell proved, such devices (cameras and article spinners) can only AID an artist in his or hers work, it is never a substitute.

Remember, your business thrives on spinning many copies of an article, so in effect what you do is article spinning.. but unlike the artist you are not adding anything to the mix.”

I included a link to this very well written blog argument for content spiners.

    Thanks Jon

  67. Jonathan, I agree with your arguments for and against. I believe that many opinions, no matter what the subject, are based on misinformation or ignorance. Have the haters even used article spinners or are they speaking from ignorance? If they have tried spinning articles, have they done it with the idea of adding new or fresh information to make it truly unique?

Those that think that spun articles add no real value, could very well be based on the fact that there are more than a few people that take an article and don’t even bother to make it fresh. I have, on many occasions, taken a plr article and entered the title into Google. You will find several results that contain the article with its original content, no spinning, no fresh content.

As you can tell, I am in favor of article spinning with the caveat that the article contains fresh content. Some of the articles I have come across are still good in their overall value, however many times they just don’t contain updated information, thus the need for taking the time to add value with The Best Spinner.

  68. I think the game of SEO is the speed. How fast and how much links can you build without Google punish your effect?

Soon I realize Article Spinning is a must not optional.

The question is if without Google and SEO, are we stilling spinning articles? The answer is NO.

So spinning article has sole purpose which is to generate as many duplicated articles as we can and using as little time as we can to get best SEO result.

When you have to do it in volume then it is inevitable.

I have a few of spinner software and they are very important part of my business.

I respect those guys who write everything manually, but they are losing the game, aren’t they?

  69. A good article, and you are correct, quite controversial. I am not a fan of spinning articles just to get back links and perhaps that is why most of my sites take a long time to get indexed or make any money. I have a lot of articles in Ezine Articles and never put that same article on my web site, nor do I submit them to other article directories. All of my articles on my sites are original and I hope that they add some worthwhile content to the web. I must admit, that I did try article spinning a couple of years ago when I used an article submission service, and I didn’t like the output. As you said, you have to work on them, and you are correct. Personally, I’d rather write a new article, but I guess that’s me. Thanks for allowing me to vent a little.

  70. “The best thing since sliced bread”??? It’s the best thing since pita bread!!!

  71. The spinner tool is only as good as the person who uses it…it is a tool period.
Given a hammer you can build a beauitful structure or smash a structure to bits…

  72. I use spun content but make sure the original and any duplicates read well. I think there is a place for spun content and a place for original content. There is something to be said for writing your own material since you should know your niche the best but we all know that most content is written by a ghost writer or outsourcers. Having used outsourcers and also written content myself I’ve decided to play to my strengths and not write. So thebestspinner fits in my marketing plans nicely. While I have a few wishlist items for it overall it is pretty good.

  73. I agree. If we are going to post our articles to syndication services, we may as well make it worth the effort by making the content unique rather than handing over most of the benefit to a site like EZA.

  74. I make use of two article spinner generated content services for around 10 to 12 blogs and one of the services spits out total crap. I would say that 90% of the articles i get into my inbox for review are garbage. Yes it all comes down to laziness on the part of users who either can’t be bothered to proof read or are plain ignorant on how to use spinners. If used properly they can be a great tool for generating backlinks.

  75. Hi Jonathan,

Well, I believe I am in the second category of spinner haters. However, your take on why the group is so fristrated with spinners may not be entirely correct.

When spinner users spin an article and submit ONE version of each article to different website properties, then everything would be great. Our Internet would be awesome.

However, MOST spinner users do not use them like that – they fail to think of anyone else but themselves. All they want is 50 gazillion backlinks to their website(s) and as much exposure as they can get. Because of this greediness, they spin dozens of copies of the same content and submit not one version to each article directory, but ALL of them to each directory!

I own and maintain several article directories. Hopefully you can see that this is causing some serious problems for me and my fellow article directory owners in terms of time management and visitor retention.

We hate for our visitors to read an article saying that “a boy carried a bucket,” and then click to another article about how, “a young man held a pail.” The same kid, the same stupid bucket! When you add dozens of these into the mix, from hundreds of “authors” every day, you can see how we would feel that spinners are adding no real value to the Internet.

Syndication is great – and still going strong. But when spinners are used as I explained above (and this ahppens more than you may think) then it cannot be called syndication, it is called spamming article directories!

I am a very satisfied user of The Best Spinner – I love using it. I sincerely believe that if a spinner is used in the right manner, and the content syndicated the way syndication is meant to be done, you can gain so much more traffic and sales. But as you said in your post, if the content sucks, or if it is used to spam, then therein lies the issue.

    Much respect,
    Allen Graves

p.s. I will not submit another comment, but imagine if you received 28 more of these! It’s very frustrating.

  76. Absolutly agree that good spinners have a place, I like the “bestSpinner” as the synonyms in it grow with use.

  77. Jon,

I agree with you that spinning and syndication are valuable in playing the Google game of trying to rank for keywords. I think its debatable whether or not there are people who actually access sites like EZA and read through the articles there, as if they were news or something. I only visit there to drop off a new article or to do some research on various subjects.

I also like your “Best Spinner” but its usefulness is limited because you’ve not released a Mac compatible version. Two words: Adobe Air – tweak the code to work on Air and you’ll have a program I could use much more often…

    Scott

  78. I agree with you Jon. It’s a tool and it’s all about how you use it. A screwdriver can put wood on your new deck in your backyard, or it can be used to pry open a door to assist in burglarizing your home. Not the tool’s fault.

@Tony – Jon’s arguments just make plain common sense regardless of the fact he sells a spinner. I feel your comment carries no weight.

  79. Spinning is part art and part skill. If you have the intuition for how the words will sound after they are spun into numerous combinations, preparing an article for spinning can be fairly quick and still sound good. However, linguists tell us that humans have some innate ability to assemble words meaningfully. Even they confessed that they do not understand it very well. The creation of meaningful prose requires the mediation of the human mind.

  80. I’m a skeptic about article spinner all this times until i tried TBS. For me it worked remarkably, but with a few corrections compared to other spinner which totally destroy the whole article.

  81. Nice overview. In my mind contentspinners have great value for the marketer when it comes to building backlinks.

No, it doesnt necessarily add more value to the web so to speak..yet..you could argue that there are now more places for people to see what you have to say!

My main gripe is that it still takes me quite long to use the spinner, including thebestspinner.

Cleaning up synonyms doesnt ever take me “a few minutes” like you say, but much more than that. You really do have to read the whole sentence and delete stuff.

I think the best use, but not the most convenient, is the use paragraph rewriting. This way your content will be highly unique and there is no threat of bad synonyms. It takes longer though..

ah the good old pros and cons.

    Jan

  82. Jonathan IMO Spinners are absolutely necessary. I cant do without one. Now I have tried a lot of various Spinners. All the major ones I might add. And honestly none really lived up to their claims. So I started to hate them. The Best Spinner came along and really made me fall in love with Spinning Software. Why? cause It did what no other one could do. offer real words and made spinning an article less frustrating. i used to have to have my Thesaurus with me before, even though I had a spinner open. Not with the Best Spinner. Its not necessary. The people that say they hate them are mostly lazy people. There is still some level of work to be done with a spinning software. There is none where u just take an article and push a button and voila a perfectly authentic readable article is spun. Its not possible. I think that’s what they want. Something that does that.. Sorry to say. It has not been invented yet. I need my spinner and I use only the best. You know which one I’m talking about.

  83. I have tried quite a few content spinners including The Best Spinner, and to be honest, I find using content spinners a lot more time consuming than rewriting articles manually. At least, I’m a lot quicker if I rewrite content without a spinner.

Apart from that, I don’t think Google will still regard spun articles as unique content in a few years time. They’re smart. If content doesn’t add value to the web, it will be ignored and not appear in Google. I’m in this business for a decade or so and believe me, there’s no SEO trick that lasts forever.

In the past, SEO still made a lot of difference. But if you do a Google search nowadays, you’ll find many top ranking sites that lack any kind of optimization, but that are just there because they are good.

In the end, we have to keep things real . Simply focus on building your own great website with unique content that is really helpful to others. Sooner or later Google recognizes quality. And creating hundreds of variations on a few sentences has nothing to do with quality.

  84. Content spinning is a very good thing for article submission services and article directory owners.

    - Article directory owners get a unique version of the content which allows directory to rank in related keywors which equals to more visits. They prefer good spun content over copy content.

    - Article submission services know that if they spin the article good, there won’t be any rejection issues due to copy content.

Not everyone submits their article only to ezinearticles.com, there are lots of other article directories you can use for your backlik resources. So it comes down to whether you want to submit the same content over and over again or a different version each time? I think the answer is clear.

But in the end it depends on the quality of the content writer.

  85. Spinners definately have their place within an internet marketers toolkit. The biggest advantage I see is that they allow me to take a PLR article based on a subject that I have no knowledge of and create a unique article based on someone elses research.

As I use blogs to generate search engine traffic in order to get people in front of third party products this type of content is ideal. I do not think there is anything wrong with this approach. I can pretty much guarantee that your local shop sells things that the owner doesn’t even like, so as a marketer I have no problem selling something that I have little or no knowledge of. To do that I must get targeted traffic if I’m going to suceed. Spinners do this for me.

    Phill

  86. I also skeptical to content spinning before I try writing to get links for my sites. Now, I know the power of content spinning. It saves a lot of time.

  87. Thanks for the great post on the arguments for and against spinning. My opinion is a philosophical one. As the creative type, I have the right to publish my own derivative works as I see fit.

Doesn’t Disney “spin” its characters, screenplays, books, and kids’ stories into a million and one derivative works for different venues and purposes? Of course they do.

So it’s an intellectual property issue, and of course, lazy content writers sometimes abuse their right to produce junk, whether it’s the first article or a derivative work. Nevertheless, they have the right to produce junk, and Google has the right to create an algorithm that attempts to filter the junk. Touché. The answer is…don’t produce junk. That has little to do with whether you spin your content or not.

  88. This is really a great article about article spinners. I totally agree with all of the points Jon have mentioned but there is still something real important that Jon have not mentioned.

You see, up until now, Google have NEVER publicly revealed their full 100% ranking algorithm. There are a lot of factors taken into consideration for ranking on their search engine, they have only revealed some variables but the exact algorithm will never be made known. This never happen in the past, not at the present nor will it ever happen in the future. Why? You might ask. The reason is because Google do not want the internet marketers to manipulate their search engine results. Just imagine this, if Google revealed their full ranking algorithms to the public, all sort of black hat techniques will appear and internet marketers will abuse it and poor unreadable content can even be rankable on the top 10 listing. If that happen, the search engine will be full of garbage content in no time and that will greatly affect the search engine users experience. So Google is really smart by not revealing everything, instead it reveals only a bit in its webmaster blog like unique content will always rank over duplicate content and that an optimise keyword rich domain will have a higher ranking authority in Google eyes.

Thus you see even if you submit the exact same article to the top 100 article directories, some of the exact same articles will still be shown in the search engine results too. MOST OF THE TIME it is around 2-5 exact same copies BUT there are certain times where the exact same articles will be shown over more than 30 times in the search engine. Why? It is because the Google algorithm is in effect! You might say maybe after a period of time, the duplicate articles will be de-index and thrown into the supplementary index but i have submitted the exact same copies of my articles everywhere before and many of those links are still being index by Google over the past 10 months. Now you ask me why does this happen? The reason is simple, it is because no one know exactly Google ranking algorithm. No one can manipulate the search engine results, PERIOD. Those who use article spinners to generate unique contents will never have to worry though because their content is unique and Google have mentioned that Unique Content will always rank better than Duplicate Content. What percentage difference is then consider as unique content then? Thus you see, we go back to the truth again, Google will never reveal its ranking algorithm in full. My best bet is at least 70% difference but a lot of article directory owners say at least 30% will do. Well, we will never know but one thing is 100% for sure, the higher the percentage, the more unique your article is and the higher chance it have to rank higher in the search engine.

Thus the moral of the story is this, unless you have the ability to generate a high percentage of unique content using article/content spinners, it basically serve you no purpose at all. Like the old adage, Garbage In —> Garbage Out.

    All the best,
    James Tan

  89. Jonathan:

I have little expertise on the subject. But, in few words, I can say this against those forum debates enemies of spinners: Do you think that everyone is capable of writing original articles? I guess not. Writing good articles all the time is a personal skill not all of us has, unfortunately. So, spinners are a great tool when you don’t have that sort of skill.

    Jesus Moreno

  90. Your absolutely right Jonathan. If Someone puts together poorly written content into an article spinner and does not take the time to look at the work the are going to put out it’s not the spinner fault it’s their fault. All I have to say is this technique works beautifully…. To see multiple articles all on the front page of google just because you take the time to make sure that the content you spin is unique and quality work is rewarding…. If it works I use it…. I’ts simple as that. I just got done an article using the best spinner software and all I gotta say is wow…. I generated a whole lot of unique articles with one click… Now that’s amazing.. Jonathan you out did yourself with that one. The software is dynomite and the rest capabilities you have added to it like the copyscape function is all genius…. Don’t think I wanna leave home with out this software. Will be using a lot. Great stuff Jonathan

    Ned Nelson

  91. Cool topic! generated a good debate but reality it’s not that important who is right or wrong. Bottom line for me it’s a just a Tool.

I need to use a spinner to reach my goals i.e get as many quality articles out there As quickly as possible with minimal effort having similiar themes and original in it’s presentation.

I’m not the best writer but using an article spinner makes my sentences sound so much better than the original!
note: I’m biased I do use The Best Spinner but it’s the best so far.

  92. I happen to feel that a good article spinner has its place in internet marketing along with the many other tools that are used. It is not the tool but the person using the tool that degrades an original article. If you take the time to actually rewrite sentences and not just use the synonym tool you can actually add value as you put a different spin and thought on the original article. Jonathan has done such an amazing job of giving us a tool that we can, with a little work, actually produce many unique articles from one original thought.

  93. I do get pretty readable articles using spinners but it’s usually several hours of work, and when I submit to Ezine Articles and a few other top directories I first spin and then I manually edit the article to remove a few artifacts and change a couple bad sentences to better ones.

  94. I think we still need to correct the article after spinning it, to make it more human-edited one.

  95. Jon,

    Another well-reasoned article, as always.

Like with anything else, there are good tools and there are bad tools, but regardless of that, you have to use all tools correctly.

The best tool in the world won’t turn bad products into good ones – they must be used intelligently.

Those who hate spinners are like people who blame the tools when they should be blaming the people using them incorrectly.

A spinner is a great tool for helping to get great content seen by more people, but the premise has to be that the content is already great – otherwise you’re doing nothing more than spamming up the web.

  96. Hi Folks Jonathan – Like everyone who works online to make extra cash – some do most don’t – same goes for Spinners – some work with spinners as a tool – most don’t – I would like to bet – these folks who make the loudest noise putting spinners down by bad mouthing them have not taken the time to experiment with them – “can’t see the wood for the trees” – in some cases have not tried out a few different spinners out to find the one that suits their style of writing for the better – right tool for the right job? Kind of mind set –
No matter what anyone’s level of writing skills are if they take the time to watch the “The Best Spinner” intro video — (it does what it says on the tin) – Simple as that!

    Phillip Skinner

  97. I think it really depends on the type of spinner you are using. Some of them are really junk and will not create anything good but if you are using a good spinner and you know what you are doing, you can generate good articles.

I can understand why some people may hate spinners but in the online marketing business, they really save you time and money. So I must say I am with the love spinners group but that doesn’t mean I don’t create my own unique content, you still must do that and not use only spinners 100% of the time.

    Great post.

  98. I think that about 75% of the people who use spinners don’t really take the time to:
    1) learn how to use them appropriately and,
    2) even bother to proofread what they’ve written.

I am in a blog network that is supposed to provide well written material for my blog but about 75% of the articles that are sent to the blog are refused and deleted because they’re rubbish. They don’t even make sense. As a matter of fact, I unsubscribed from the network for this very reason.

These are the kinds of spun articles that give a bad name to spinning. If an article is spun the way that it is truly intended to be, there would be a whole lot more information about similar subjects out there, however, those subjects would be covered from a different angle and with a different “spin” to them.

I use a spinner frequently but it usually takes me about two to three hours to pump out a 750 – 1000 word spun article because I try to spin for content rather than to just throw out a bunch of goblety-gook. I ALWAYS proofread what I’ve spun and run the article through the spinner at least ten different times so that I can read the various spins.

If you do it right, you get respect. If you do it wrong, you get disdain so, if a person wants to do article marketing on a frequent basis, they need to slow down and do the articles correctly or they’ll wind up hurting themselves in the long run.

There’s nothing wrong with spinning if it’s done the right way. Even though it takes a while to do it right, the results are much more professional looking and the content is still intact and relevant. Your reputation will not suffer if you do take the time to perform an appropriate article spin.

  99. First, I also want to say that TheBestSpinner is really the best. Spinning articles used to get on my nerves and I never really used it. This changed with TheBestSpinner. It surpasses every Thesaurus by far. Amazing! I used to work in the translation field, and I do know how a good synonym can help you.

On top of this, it is really easy to use. And the interface is very clean also, which is very important for all of us who spend hours in front of a computer.

I use it to syndicate articles that are different in order get more benefit from the article or social bookmarking submission. I don’t use every spinned article as if it was a totally different article as some people do. This is perhaps the main reason why some are against spinners.

  100. Well, as far as I’m concerned, I think they are great…although, I wouldn’t have said that before some of the newer one’s have come onto the market.

I tried some in the past, and it took hours upon many, many, hours to train them with usable synonyms etc. I spent a hell of a long time working with (or more like trying to work with) Website Content Wizard.

At the time, it was considered the Big Boy of spinners, but, seriously I really didn’t care for the program much at all. I’d even got the updated version just prior to latching onto The Best Spinner. To be honest, I never even dove into the new version, as I was more interested in TBS, since I’d had such headaches with it in the past.

These days though, using TBS is a part of my regular routine with practically all articles. Perhaps it still does take a little bit of time to properly spin an article…but nothing like before! Actually, as far as spinners go…it’s undoubtedly the BEST I’ve ever come across.

I use it for tons of things, not just articles. I use it for spinning blurbs for posting on some different blog networks I’m a member of such as The IMAdvantage, spinning titles for videos..etc..etc.

Properly spun, the articles are pretty much as good as it gets..the percentage level of my rewrites is always at least 60% plus..usually higher.

I guess you could say I’m a lover of them. Truthfully though, I’d like to hire somebody to do the spinning for me, as it would save me a TON more time. That will be the next outsourcer I’m after..I do know that much.

In any event..TBS is an incredible product. For those that may doubt it…use it properly…your mis-conceptions will be alleviated…no question.

Cheers Jonathon, and thanx for a great product.

  101. Jon,

You do a good job of making excellent products but you can’t keep idiots from misusing them. You also do a good job of educating people. But with what is going on in our country and with the FCC proposing new regulations to totally control the internet, I believe there are more inportant events going on than debate over the whether this or that software or IM tactic is evil or good.

  102. Yes , i agree with you jon,, content spinner is a tool, you must modify it to suit with you blog, website etc.

  103. The fact is that an incredible high % of users in the IM field have believed the “hype” and not read the small print. Which leads to a massive group all going about things the wrong way.

That is in fact good for the smarter marketers. However it is somewhat unfair on the mass audience, cause their inexperience is exploited by design or by chance in the sales process.

Raising the bar and trying to educate users is good for developers. And I think you do a good job. If you can get the ideas driven home about responsible use, or best practice early, the end result is a better educated marketer, who add’s quality to the IM world.

  104. Let me add my two cents to this conversation.

Anyone who has been using TBS consistently ever since it was released should understand the immense value of this tool…especially for newbie marketers who do not have enough money to spend on buying paid ads and doing media buys.

A lot of my subscribers do not have the seed capital it takes to test campaigns via paid ads. So the first thing that I tell them is to buy a content spinning tool such as TBS and spin articles like a workhorse for about 1 to 2 months. If you combine TBS with some of the other article submission tools that help syndicate your content as well as build link juice, then you have a killer combo that will definitely build your business and income if you stick with it.

And I agree with you 100% Jon. The only real way value can be added via these content spinners is if you really take the time to spin readable articles. A lot of times, it takes me 30+ minutes to spin one single article. But after I’ve spun that article, I have 50 to 100 versions that I can plaster all over the internet. So if you do the math, that is a unique article every 36 to 45 seconds.

So it all pays off in the end.

The key is to just really take your time and don’t spin junk!

  105. Johnathon,

Almost makes me want to go grab me a bag ‘ol bag o’ popcorn and wait for the shooting to begin! :)

I’ve sat steadfastly on the “no way in hell” would I ever get involved in spinning side of the fence –

But I have to admit, that after reading your article that… I’m giving it a second thought.

Sure it’s going to mean some extra work (because I still believe that those who press “spin and publish” without ever reading the results should be strung up)… but perhaps with a little effort… it just might pay off.

For the moment, I might just *move* from my side of the fence and sit on it for a while.

  106. Tony:

while I appreciate your feedback, you state that all other arguments for spinners are overrated without providing any reasons or evidence to support that point of view. Perhaps you would care to elaborate?

  107. Jon,

Your argument in support of content spinners is well taken, but it is hardly an unbiased argument since you are the owner/seller/creator of a spinner. Having said that, I do appreciate the offers and opportunities you have made available to me over the past two years and look forward to receiving them.

Content Spinners require a decent amount of time to select the appropriate synonyms, time to edit the spun articles and even more time to make sure the spun articles don’t get rejected by the Web-Zine services.

I agree that spinners do have their place in the article content arena, but not for the reasons mentioned above. A spinner’s value for my purposes would be to look at a few different versions of an original article, select the best version, and submit it (original content) to the Web-Zine services.

All other claims of a spinner’s value, in my opinion, are overrated. Happy Memorial Day and have a great holiday weekend! Thanks again.

  108. I used to hate with content spinner until i try the best spinner, Now i’m a part of the 3rd group :D

  109. Syndicating an article is like spreading a rumor. Give it to a group of people (or websites) and that group will start to talk about it. Some of them will travel with a different version of the original “idea” you gave them. As more people talk about it, the more buzz it gets and Google will try to find out which is the original. As Jon has pointed out, there are good and bad ways to adopt an idea. As an Internet marketer any publicity (good or bad) is still a publicity that should benefit your website.

  110. Another great post as usual.

Those using a content spinner do have an advantage over those that don’t. I think it’s always good to get a lot of articles out to the directories without taking forever.

I sometime like to rewite the sentences in an article, often times up to 5 different ways. Then I can randomly pick and choose from the sentences to create a number of unique articles.

  111. Jon, an interesting teaser. However, here’s my point for what it’s worth… the definition of the word ‘content.’

    The two main ones are:
    1. Everything that is included in a collection and that is held or included in something
    2. The sum or range of what has been perceived, discovered, or learned

Content spinners most certainly do not create unique articles through improving what has been perceived, discovered or learned. But they could be said to satisfy ’1′.

Essentially, content spinners should more aptly be named “word spinners.”

  112. Content spinners are just tools to get a job done faster and easier, at the end of the day, it comes down to the person behind the tool putting in those spins/versions and making sure that they do not sound odd when spins get combined, AND quality of the original article is important.. if the original is garbage, the spins are going to be garbage as well. Articles have to be unique or original, by unique I don’t simply mean no exact phrase found in it that is already on the internet, but unique in the sense that… points presented or angle or perspective of the article is new and fresh and not something overdone and written about over and over again and different words/sentences, as what most articles you will find online are.

  113. I use TBS for a few reasons but at the end of the day I ask myself the question did I contribute something of value to someone who may read my article.

To me it doesn’t matter that the same article has been spun to within an inch of its life and spread all over the shop as long as the intrinsic value of the article remains intact.

I have to believe that if someone searches Ezine and gets my article they get some good data and some value. The same goes for any directory or blog that republishes a spun version of the same article.

Yes, I do it for backlinks and rankings… that’s what I get. But I don’t believe that I deserve to get that until I have provided some value.

The web is immense. You can’t get information to people by being on the internet anymore. You have to be EVERYWHERE on the internet for your message to be heard and as long as that message contains something of benefit to others who may find it then I have no problem with an intelligently spun article.

  114. Just about all spinners out there are trash, except…

I have used a number of spinners and most of them are totally worthless. However, there are two exceptions to this rule.

Included in the affiliate marketing course of Steven Clayton comes an article spinner that’s quite good, but it’s not for sale as a stand alone spinner. The course of Steven is really worth every penny and you get the content spinner included in the package.

However, The Best Spinner is what it’s name says – it REALLY is by far the best content spinner in the market. If used properly you will never produce junk (like all the other spinners out there, which is just a waste of money and time).

TBS saves you a lot of time, producing high quality output. I am using TBS now for just more than a month and I am thrilled – Jonathan over-delivers on their promises.

  115. I really don’t like spinners but The Best Spinner definitely does more than most “spinners” it should be in a category of it’s own.

  116. Spinners work great, i have low hanging keywords were i have all 10 spots from one spun article posted to many web 2.0 properties. You just have to use them right! Give each sentence three alternates then spin some synonyms within those alternates and your good to go!

  117. I was alreayd using my own content spinning algorythm and inter-networked deployment system before I discovered the Best Spinner, so I knew the rules of good spinning and continuity of good content.

In some respects mannually encoding articles produced better spins because the spin choices were exactly right for the content as it was not so easy to select a bunch of synonyms.

However, I was alreayd working on a progrm much like the Best Spinnet when I encountered it. And spinning content is a small pience of a WAY more abitious project, it made since to direct my membership base to use the best spinner.

Since then, I have seen some incredible garbage come out of their work, and I have seen some masterpieces. IT”S NOT IN THE TOOL, it’s in the implementation. This rules ALWAYS applies especially on the Internet.

Overall I think content spinning is a fantastic weapon for serious bloggers, content producers as well as members of our IBP network. With The best Spinner and IBP we have been able to deploy over 6,000,000 unique articles across our netowrk of hundreds of domains, in 3 WEEKS! Any our users are beginners and novices.

Jonathan, I have to thank you for creating a nice tool with very flexible power and features. We were able to configure it to work seamlessly with IBP in minutes, and as such exploded our network size dramatically and quickly.

I am an BIG Spinning Fan, and take it to the next level with the software we apply AFTER using the Best Spinner to prep the files.

Thanks for getting this key tool done first!

  118. I agree with you Jon. Your TBS always help me in article marketing and save lots of my time in article writing efforts. I am in LOVE GROUP :)

  119. Like anything else content spinners are a tool that can get you link love, and obviously make you money.

But just like a knife that is useful, but deadly if used in the wrong way, abusing content spinners can get you tossed from EZA, or worse.

I guess moderation is the key, like everything else in life.

  120. Very good article, I agree with your three points.
You forgot to mention the use of web 2.0 properties for placing the spinned articles. There are hundreds of them and some required unique content, that the spinner sure can deliver.

  121. These are different schools of thought man. Long have Internet gurus tried to reconcile them but I don’t see it happening anytime soon..

  122. thebestspinner is soooo awesome, just use it correctly and we wil have readable unique content in a minute.

Do content spinners not add any real value to the web? sometimes no, sometimes yes

Are content spinners powerful tools for improving your search engine rankings? yes, if you know how to use it

  123. Like any other tool, if used correctly, they’re great. But if all you have is a hammer, everything starts looking like a nail!

  124. At the end of the day, the value that spinners provide to the web really boils down to who is using them and what their strategy is.

There are some people that will spend hours spinning articles so that everything is perfect. On the other hand, there are some who “borrow” articles from wherever they can find them, spin them into oblivion, and post the content everywhere they can.

The “against” crowd lumps everyone into the same category, which isn’t fair, the same way that lumping them all together as being prudes wouldn’t be fair.

Move over grampa, this isn’t the year 2000 anymore :) Get with the times, or get run over.

  125. Great post you have here. To me, I think content spinner is an advantage when I want to blast out to many directories.

Usually, I use software to automated the content spinner before I use article submission software to blast out the site. It take me less than 10 minute to do that, so nothing really matter much.

I will join the support group.

    Regards,
    Winson Yeung
