$676.08 from 154 visitors.
September 8, 2009

If you've followed my blog for a while, it's likely you've heard me tout the benefits of focusing on razor-targeted keywords to increase the conversion rate of your web site.
To put it simply: keywords that make clear exactly what the searcher is looking for result in a much larger percentage of people buying something. For example, somebody looking for "dallas term life insurance quote" is probably much more likely to buy than somebody searching for "term life insurance." The first searcher is a buyer, the second is quite possibly just looking for information.
This has certainly been the case with a certain web site of mine that holds the number three spot in Google for the name of the product it ranks for. It doesn't get much traffic, but what it does with the traffic it does get is amazing! In fact, in August the site only received 154 unique visitors, but those 154 visitors resulted in 29 sales totaling $676.08 in affiliate income for me.
Twenty-nine sales from 154 visitors is an 18% conversion rate, which is truly excellent for a two-page affiliate web site. (Incidentally, this is the same site I blogged about a while back in this post, which gives more details about the web site.)
This site enjoys such a high conversion rate because it ranks well for a highly targeted set of keywords — the name of the product. It was super easy to rank for, and achieved it's ranking in only six weeks. How did I rank it so well so fast? Simply by putting the site into my 3WayLinks network.
So the next time you sit down to research what keywords you should try and rank your web site for, don't overlook keywords just because they don't get many searches each month. If the keywords are razor-targeted, you'll get a better ranking faster, and often with a bigger bottom line.
Please post your thoughts and questions in a comment below.

Yes great congratulation …. I want to
do something outrageous and divulge more informations that all other gurus hold back:
1) Reveal the URL of this so called money maker
2) When did this occurr?
raj:
Sorry, but I can't because the site is in the 3WayLinks network, and for security purposes divulging urls or keywords is a violation of the terms of service I require of all 3WL members (myself included).
I totally agreed with you. In this case, I once targeting keywords that only have 50 searches per month and able to make a $200 sales with 6.5% conversation rate.
This method works ; )
Couldnt agree more Jon. I make most of my affiliate sales from keywords that have low search volume according to Google .They are laser targeted and provide a massive conversion rate. Some even have 40% commisions to sweeten the pot
Pretty slick case study Jonathan. A handful of these keywords ranked high could create a full time income for someone in a matter of weeks.
Right now I am picking good keywords from my profitable PPC campaigns and optimizing them for natural search. Seeing some pretty good results.
You are right. It is a real online business. Not only a game of words.
Focus is a core of any business.
Thanks and be blessed
Congratulations Jon. You should share us the step by step procedure so that the rest of us can copy you.
I am a member of 3waylinks and I am happy with the service.
Lian
Awesome!
I think one of the reasons why I continue to struggle in internet marketing is that I do not know (yet) how to find profitable niche.
Thanks for your guidance, Jonathan.
Jose
inspirational. I just started building sites to flip and watch a movie from another marketer and he pretty much pointed out the same thing. motivates me to start building some of these niches right away and just get some razor targeted keywords.
Hi Jon,
I'm wondering if you're using the product name in the url?
Joe:
Yes, the domain name is [ProductName].net
Jonathan,
Do you mainly attribute your ranking in Google to your links from 3 Way or to the low level of competition and optimization? I’m sure it’s a combination of both, but do you think you would have gotten the same results without the link network?
I’m still trying to get a handle on this link stuff. It seems to take forever to find out if your links are helping your site. I hope I’m not the only one who feels that way.
Thanks,
DL
I have tried you 3 way link program, but I find it too technical for me to implement for non-technical person like me, at end I decided to canceled it.
It will be better to improve you tutorial so that we can understands and implement it correctly.
Regards
Albert Lee.
Great example Jonathan. I hate to dump cold water on anything you do Jonathan but I have been hearing that Google is getting smart to linking schemes like 3WayLink and that it is starting to penalize sites that use such techniques.
Just saying that's what I have heard and have read lately.
I'm not sure I would use something like 3WayLink for that reason which of course would make it tougher to rank and tougher to make the kind of income you made on this example.
Carlos
DL:
I attribute the rankings to 3WayLinks. Even low-competition keywords require at least some links to rank for.
Carlos:
Did you know that people have been saying that Google has "caught on" to the 3-way linking idea for the last three or four years? And yet sites continue to rank and rank and rank. In fact, I know of one site that ranks for a very competitive phrase and advertises the fact that their ranking is due to a 3-way linking network! On the page! And they've been ranked number one for their keywords for the past FIVE years.
Bottom line: don't believe everything that you read about Google's supposedly god-like powers — they don't have any.
Another great lesson Jonathan.
I love 3-way linking as you know but would bikini wax be more acceptable than Braz…ion. Just a thought. It is family friendly. Besides I took it out to be sure not to rock the boat.
On the 3 way it could be a good idea to have the "blank" symbol show up automatically in the header and footer area. I found when I needed to place it I had to go and find it elsewhere. Just a thought may help people like Albert Lee above.
Thanks Jonathan.
What you are saying has been said for some time now, both by you and others. What I find difficulty with, is in finding these razor-sharp niches.
I have bought several keyword and niche selection programs, but none of them have actually found the niches that I am looking for - they have just ruled out the many thousands of niches that are not razor-sharp. I suppose this has saved me time and money, trying to monetize something not worth the trouble, but it hasn't earned the potential income that I want from that part of my business.
Is there an easy way to identify these niches?
Barry
I agree with you, targeted keyword is low search, low kompetition but the buyer is in there.

Jon,
As always, a great post from somebody with not just the theory but the experience too.
I'm beginning to think product name/model no. based keywords are probably the best way to go, although finding the right ones is still clearly going to take some research.
Mark
I get about 40-50 clicks on my clickbank links, but no sales.
(3 month only 1 sale actually)
Any advice?
Jon
Thanks for this so inspiring post. I want to join all the 3 link network but money is the problem, anyway i am joining 3 way links this week.
With your WCA i bought i realized that Google loves one way links. I analyzed some sites on it and it really shows. So 3way links will definitely work-doubting thomas' should know this.
You are my teacher in IM now and i can agree with all your teachings.
Another great post.
tope
For your 2 pages site, are you using a Wordpress? If so, are you using 2 "pages" or 2 "posts"?
Thanks Jon! and I thinking to come back to 3 ways links, good job!
Jon,
What kind of home page did you create? Was it a pre-sell, a user review or something else?
Cheers
Steve
After hearing about this I thought, just give it a try.
And I must say it works. It's been fun watching Google while the site
moved up the rankings to number one over a period of time.
Thank you
Jeff
interesting case study - again it shows that laser targeted traffic converts well. The fact that 3WL was used probably speeded things up, but the same probably could get archived with more manual effort.
… now back to find the next niche to target
Awesome Jonathan!
Love posts like this from you.
And truth be told, you can actually squeeze out a lot of profits from mini sites like this.
Keep it going and God Bless!
Great results Jonathan and very inspirational.
So are you saying that this site is making on average $8,000 year ($600 x 12) or did you just have a 'hot' August for commissions?
As the site has been running for 1 year now it would be great to know what the site made in the last 12 months.
By the way I'm a big user of 3WL. In fact I have 2 accounts.
All the best
Paul
Hi jon,
Man you won't believe this.. but i have all these brilliant ideas in my brain.. the problem is they just stay in my brain.. i never implement it to see the results.. am such kind of an lazy dumbo affiliate.. hope i change my attitude soon if i want to stay in this IM game. by the way one more good post from u..
Your ideas are inspirational and for the most part make more sense than anything else the so-called guru's spew out on a daily basis. But I have a question for you: why 3-way links and not my way links or 1-way links? Is there any particular reasoning behind this? I am a member of my way links but am not seeing anything great from it, despite having over 300 live links. I was a member of 1-way links but gave up because I didn't have time to write and spin articles (on top of article marketing at ezinearticles.com). I keep hearing very good things about 3-way links though, and you yourself have just said you used this method for above site. What's the difference and how is this benefiting you more than the others, for example? And do you have a special offer available for taking all three services
Jon
I thought it was against trademark / copyright to use "product names" in your url?
Your views please Jon.
Thanks
Roger
Interesting post Jonathon. Niches with little competition are very difficult to find and its even more difficult to get the keyword in the domain name. Not impossible though.
Regarding 3WL, I was a member for a short time but got nervous about some of the negative posts on the forum and in other places. I have been rethinking that decision lately.
thanks jonathan..give it a try next time
3WL has been the life force of my online business for the past 2 years and has yet to fail me. Thanks Jon for such a genius idea and keep up the good work!
Jonathan, good point made on using the razor edge key words. Using exact company names is a great way to target your responses.
Enjoy reading all you post.
3WL I've heard is great. You're completely correct concerning keyphrase targeting vs keyword targeting.
Massive research!!! I think You're really a kind genius. That's why you're sharing this technique to us.
Roger:
The product owner is aware of the domain name and is okay with it.
Interesting indeed!
On those two page sites, what is the type of content on each page?
A short article, a presales letter, or what?
Hello Jonathan ! how are you?
I just discovered your great blog, I was about to ask you what a blog was, and what it can be used for in marketing products etc. but skimming through yours I think I got a prety good idea what it is now. So my question is, how can a nubie like me build a blog from scratch? I understand that i'll have to have a product or expert knowlage on a specific subjet or something to write about ?. I'm an old guy, a slow learner but passionate about learning this and also maketing and advertising and perhaps make a few bucks in the process!
Wonder if you of any of your followers can help?
Thanks for the opportunity to write and ask Jonathan!
All the Best Karey
I have to agree with the keyword as the most important part of the equation. I am currently targeting holidays, and have been pleasantly surprised at the great keyword phrases available!
Hey Jon,
Cool method. I can verify this does work, however I am doing it a bit different (same method) but I'm ranking my money site using a different linking method which is making the process lots faster.
But I do have a question.
I'm a bit confused by your two posts you made (Sept 4th and 8th)
In the Sept 4th post you said that you made 3 sales from your 2 page website which earned $99.
Ok… in the Sept 8th post you said for the month of August you made 29 sales and earned $676. Well, are the two posts still referring to the same software download you were poromoting?
If so…
How did you go from earning $99 to $676 in just 4 days ( the time line between the two posts)?
Thanks,
-J
Hey Jon,
I like the way you always make things so simple and straight-forward.
I've known this little technique for a little while… but have I done it? Nope. Not yet. But 18%? Now I'll do it.
Thanks again,
Joseph
More great info. Will definatly have to check out 3WL.
Great information. Keyphrases with the product name are awesome if you can get permission.
Karey:
The beauty of blogs is that they're so EASY to use to write content. You don't have to know any HTML at all. You can start tinkering for free by going to Wordpress.com and getting a free account.
Once you start playing around inside the blog you'll see it's super simple to create posts.
JSG:
The last post was written last year, and this post, this year.
Hey Jon,
Once again it's great that someone like you exist, you are an extraordinary internet marketer who sheds light and the truth on the subject about internet marketing.
I have just developed my first WP blog. I took the lessons from Alex Sysoef at Easy Wordpress. What he is really good at is showing you how to setup a blog properly for security and has provided some good plugins to get you started. His theme has a very mucky look to its design.
I have since then bought a nice looking theme. What I like about Wordpress is the simplicity of design in comparison to starting out fresh with a static website. What a change, just a few tweaks with some of the plugholes and that's it - done.
I visited a blog by Holly Mann about GVO and her site is ranked very well with just a few pages of content.
She has a link on her site to the 10 highest income earners who blog, so I took a little tour and noticed a common thread of simplicity in design.
Some of the blogs do not have any boarders and lots of white space making the blog appear to be more open.
What do you recommend as an all around basic design or is there such a thing.
What I'm also asking… is it better for SEO to have more pages with a couple of sub pages in comparison to post.
I'm getting ready to get your 3-way links soon as know it works.
I call it a round robin, on one of my sites I had linked to a website with an anchor keyword that wasn't even considered relevant in Google's eyes to an external site (not mine) which was linked to that owners 2nd site and linked back to mine (a paid ad) and ranked my website #1 in Google for a keyword phrase that didn't even exist before that time.
Thanks for everything you've given us Jon!

I have been using this technique myself , finding micro niches that pay are gold mines. Well done on your little gold mine.
Jason
Bookmarked!!
This is a quality post and the previous one on the same site absolute gold!! Very inspirational and not a lot of work to try.
Do you recommend trying this with several different products/niches and accepting that some will work well and some will tank?
Thanks again!
Again another one of those ( WHY DID'NT I THINK OF THAT- IDEAS )
from the man himself. i was wondering whether to go for the long tail or just low search volume keywords recently .thanks for a great post Jon.
Nice tip to go for long tail keywords. Already I am having an Insurance blog, where I am going to use your method of making money online.
This is really excellent earnings. Congratulations! I am new in this business so this is a really useful post for me. This post opened my horizons.
Wow, 18% conversion! That is amazing. The highest I have seen is 11%. You are absolutely right about keyword targeting. The generic keywords can bring a lot of traffic, but if the traffic is worthless, it doesn't do you any good. Long-tail keywords are the most valuable in SEO conversion.
John, did you target 4-word, 5-word or 6-word phrases? Thanks for the post!
Wow that is an impressive conversion rate. I wish some of my websites could do so well. I definitely agree that going after super targeted keywords is a great idea. When your keywords include a specific product or service name, most of those visitors are prequalified and are close to making a purchase. If the keyword is too broad, the visitors may still be doing initial research or price comparison.
Jon:
Earlier this year, there was a big rush to register domain names with the .asia extension. Is this just a big scam by the Chinese, or are they valuable domains???
On a totally different topic, what is the best way to sell a Domain name? I have contacted the Support people of GoDaddy.com, and they state that the most a Domain name can sell for is $2500. This seams ridiculous!!!
I was told that www.sedo.com is a much better company to sell your Domain name. Some companies urge or require you to use their appraisal services to estimate the worth of your Domain name. There should be some Company that allows you to set any required initial bid for your Domain name, regardless of how high it is or what the appraisal is.
Please let me know.

The convertion ratio is great. I learn that chosing buying keyword for position in search engine is a must.
Indeed, Interesting post. I really enjoy reading. Thanks.
Jonathan,
Question, if you don't mind:
How are you monetizing this site that you made so much money? Is it CPA, eBay, Amazon, Clickbank, or some other affiliate program?
Wow Jonathan you are stretching my mind. You now have released the complete package. Find your niches, Niche Horde, build your pages, Answer Analyst, and build you links 1 way links. Really cool.
Rick
You are always working to make our internet life easier. Thanks for the inspiration Jon.
Rick
154 visitors is an 18% conversion rate…that is awesome! Thanks for another great blog post. Sorry it took me so long to get to it.
That is an excellent conversion rate in my mind. Did you expect such results? What I wonder is what your plan is for the future. Will you continue to raise that percentage? How?
that is a bloody great earning rate! if only I could achieve that with AdSense. Thanks for the share
I can see that Google is similarly getting more and more smart. Slight details can tell you a lot about a visitors intentions, of course, there are a lot of factors. You've done very well, I look forward to reading more on your blog.
wow john thats great, I have a few of your products and over the last few months I have finally been getting somewhere and implementing a few of your strageties. I have had one site that only gets around 400 visitors per month but converts crazy and nets me aound 500- 1000 per month
